When I introduce myself to the audience as a Tapestry Weaver, many people wonder what Tapestries are.
Tapestries were historically considered as “Woven Mural Art”.
One unique characteristic which tapestries had, but no other mural art forms had was the portability.
When the tapestry was developed as a NEW mural art in the middle ages and the renaissance, other art forms which covered wall e.g. mosaic and fresco paintings were all non-portable.
I believe this fantastic function was one of the reason for the heyday of tapestry art several hundreds years ago.

And of course, I must talk about other gorgeous characteristics of tapestries, the complexity of colours, the tactile texture, and so on...which I will talk about next week!
Stay tuned for my next blog post!
